Introduction to Lean Six Sigma (Three-Day) Workshop

Introduction to Lean Six Sigma (Three-Day) Workshop

Workshop Description

The fundamental objective of Lean Management is to minimize the end-to-end process lead time, while Six Sigma focuses mainly on the reduction and elimination of variation in a process outcome.

For an organization to achieve Operational Excellence, it needs manufacturing, service, and administrative processes that are efficient (Lean) and effective (Six Sigma). Therefore, an organization that wants to achieve Operational Excellence needs to understand and be able to utilize both methodologies, Lean and Six Sigma.

This three-day "Introduction to Lean Six Sigma" workshop is designed for manufacturing and service organizations and introduces an organization to the basic concepts of Lean and Six Sigma as well as many of the most widely used Lean and Six Sigma methods and tools.

Workshop Benefits

Organizations that re-think their end-to-end processes or value chains and find ways to provide what their Customers value better, faster, and with significantly fewer resources than their competitors can obviously develop an unassailable competitive advantage.

After this workshop, organizations should comprehend some of the fundamental methods and tools needed to effectively start applying Lean and Six Sigma to manufacturing, service, and/or administrative processes, resulting in reduced lead/cycle times, improved product and service quality, and increased productivity of its core processes and value streams.

Key Topics and Learning Points

The "Introduction to Lean Six Sigma (3-Day)" workshop is very interactive with many examples, videos, and hands-on small group exercises. The workshop covers the following topics.

  • Introduction to Lean Management and Six Sigma
  • The Lean Six Sigma DMAIC Roadmap
  • Lean Six Sigma Project Definition & Charter
  • Kaizen Event Planning & Management
  • Six Sigma Fundamentals
    • Process Variables Map & Exercise
    • Cause and Effects Matrix & Exercise
    • Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) & Exercise
    • Human Error Modes and Mistake-Proofing Principles
    • Basic Statistics
    • Introduction to Minitab (using Minitab free-trial version)
    • Graphical Analysis with Minitab & Exercise
  • Lean Fundamentals
    • 5S Visual Workplace Organization
    • Value Stream Mapping & Exercise

Workshop Requirements

None

Workshop Duration

This course is a three-day workshop.

Who Should Attend

Process owners, managers, and employees throughout the organization involved in critical manufacturing or service processes that require lead time, productivity, and cost reduction. The optimum number of participants is 3 to 4 teams of 4 to 5 team members each.

Kaizen Event Workshop

Kaizen workshops are of course available after the workshop to transfer the workshop learnings to an existing manufacturing or service process. A Kaizen event consists in most cases of 1 to 2 days of planning and preparation followed by a two- to four-day Kaizen event. During the Kaizen event, the appropriate Lean Six Sigma methods and tools will be applied to a specific high-impact manufacturing, service, or administrative process. Typical Kaizen events have a payback time of fewer than 3 months.
